2008 was not the best of years for us. Sadly, We had to say goodbye to three special family members over the course of the last 12 months. Our beloved dog, Princess died on May 13th on her 13th birthday. I know most people say their dogs act human but she was really almost like a person. She was so smart and had a keen sense of awareness about the people she loved. Shelby still talks about her all the time and asks us what Princess is eating in heaven.
In July we lost Todd's Uncle Johnny to ALS. He had been having symptoms for some time before he was diagnosed in 2006 and suffered with the disease bravely before succombing to it. He leaves behind his wonderful wife Kay, two grown children and their families. He is sorely missed.
Almost immediately after Johnny's death, Todd's 95 year old grandmother, Ruth Waggoner died in August. She was the matriarch of the family and loved by all of us. I hope to be half the lady that she is when I enter my twilight years. At her funeral the pastor likened her to Ruth in the bible. One never heard her complain or ask for anything in return, always unselfish and kind to others. She would make you feel like you were her favorite! I want to leave that kind of legacy.
I was reading a friend's blog this week and was reminded of the wonderful song by Nicole Nordeman called Legacy. I hope that I can leave that kind of lasting imprint.

I will always remember how Princess loved to be petted! She was the sweetest dog. And she was just like a member of your family!
